The Jessamine County Detention Center is a medium-security detention center located at 229 E Maple St Nicholasville, KY which is operated locally by the Jessamine County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Jessamine County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, municipalities, the US Marshal's Service and the Nicholasville Police Department who do not have their own long-term lock-up.

The Detention Center is committed to having those incarcerated give back in some way to the community as part of their rehabilitation. Inmates who are classified as non-violent offenders are assigned to work details throughout the county. These work details are with different agencies throughout the county and city governments. Typically the positions that these offenders fill are positions that would require someone to be paid to perform. By working with these agencies offenders are not only giving back to the community but they also gain job skills to assist them in finding employment upon their release. Thanks to the community works program the Jessamine County is able to provide incarcerated inmates to these agencies and in turn lower their operating budgets. Some of the departments that utilize these inmates are The County Recycling Center, County Road Department, County Animal Shelter, Maple Grove Cemetery, Roadside Litter Program, Parks and Recreation, County Construction and Maintenance and Camp Nelson Heritage Park. The Detention Center provides ethical and humane standards of punishment to further deterrence while promoting education and rehabilitation of incarcerated offenders.

Phone Calls & Voicemail – Only inmates may initiate phone calls. To call you, an inmate simply dials your phone number. When receiving a call, you'll first hear an announcement from an automated operator; "This is a call from [inmate name], an inmate at Jessamine County Detention Center. This call is subject to recording and monitoring. Press one (1) to accept all communication from this inmate and Telmate."

If the inmate has no funds in his account and is calling you for the first time, the call will be free for a brief period (often less than a minute). This is to allow the inmate to inform you of where they are and to explain how calls work from this facility. After this short call, the inmate will be placed on hold and you will be presented the opportunity to:

1. Pay (via credit card) to continue the current call.
2. Deposit funds into their Inmate Account to continue your call and, if there is money remaining, the inmate may use the funds to make future calls to any number.
3. Deposit funds to your Friends & Family Account to continue your call and, if there is money remaining, the inmate may use the funds to call your number
